There were countless re-creations about the U.S. Civil War in books and movies. Also Civil War re-enactments are very popular past times throughout the United States. But in gaming Civil war lags behind other wars. In board games and video games, Games from World War 2  has experienced a lot of re-creations. But the increased popularity of World War II games has covered Civil War games.

One of the most popular themes in video games is the theme of War. This is due to the success of video game franchises like “Call of Duty” and “Medal of Honor.” These games are based on World War II and modern warfare. One war that gets little attention though is the Civil War. But Civil war games do exist they just are not that popular.

1. American Civil War of 1861-1865 (1983) – this game is a condensed version of its contemporary the Civil War. This game is very enjoyable because it loses its scope which means the American Civil war loses much of the immersion. 2. The American Civil War (2001) – this game is a recent addition to the Civil War board game series. This game can be played by two players.

Video Games of Civil War

“Robert E. Lee: Civil War General” is considered to be the best Civil War video game. It was released in 1996. This is a successful recreation of the Civil War. Most modern gamers find it unimpressive. If you can find the right PC to run the game, it makes it impressive to play with.

American Civil War: Gettysburg (2005) – among the recent Civil War video games this is one of the best. This game is easy to play and understand.

The History Channel has also released a Civil War gaming series which was released in 2006 and 2008. These games are very authentic.
